Luminar Neo in subscription is already a tough sell, not to mention those unknown extensions yet. In fact I have forgot Luminar Neo recently as most of its functions are just optional, and most of them have no improvements over Luminar AI. However as someone who owns Luminar AI and Luminar Neo, I do not think the improvements of Neo really worth it. I think subscription is not a bad deal if I plan to upgrade yearly after all. It's also trying to move to a subscription model: It's trying to get people to buy the whole pack, without saying what's coming after that: It plans to add a series of billable extensions, with an NR AI one coming imminently. I see that Luminar is pre-selling future software again. The pace of Skylum updating Luminar is mostly plateau to say the best, and I do not see value-added services that warrant a constant cost. For example, Adobe constantly updates Lightroom/Photoshop and Camera Raw, and provides cloud storage for photos. Instead of force-feeding subscription model, I think Skylum should provide some really useful services, as in SaaS. Instead of money-back guarantee, I would rather see Skylum provide trial versions. For software, you cannot see what you get in action without really getting it to run on the computer. You do NOT need to upgrade every year, and functions of camera is NOT lost if you do not subscribe. I think comparing Luminar to big-name cameras is not a good analogy, and Luminar Neo is far from latest and greatest.įor hardware, you know what you pay for, and the technology is mostly iterative "improvements" these years. Yes, I've seen other speculation to that effect. But I imagine it will be something along the lines of Creative Kit. Yes, a small gamble as to what else is coming. In any case, I use DeepPRIME on every image, which is almost certainly far better than this new Noiseless extension. You are just looking at the first year rental cost, which will go up in year two. It's a lot more than that to purchase the extensions. The Skylum offer of $59 for six extensions is less than Topaz Noisness Ai alone. Skylum has to provide something wanted by photographers or they will lose all future orders. They tell you exactly what camera model you'll be getting. Pre-order the latest, greatest new camera on B&H or Adorama and take your chances. The photography world is full of "pre-orders" Nikon, Canon, etc do it all the time. At this rate, I probably won't want the others, either. In any case, I don't need the HDR and Noiseless extensions, as I already have excellent tools that perform those functions. I paid the $59 early bird for existing customers. I don't have a problem with paid-for extensions, but don't like their approach of trying to get customers to commit to buying them before saying what they would do, let alone allowing them to be evaluated.
